North Royalton, Ohio
First Term – 3 years to expire in 2009
I grew up in Garfield Heights, Ohio and earned a BS in Education (from Bowling Green State University, in 1970). I later earned a M.Ed., in 1990, from Ashland University. I have taught 2nd grade for a total of 33 wonderful years; most of those being in the lovely town of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. After moving back to the northeastern part of the state, with my husband John (of 35 years), I taught two more years. I still continue to substitute teach at St. Thomas More School (in Brooklyn, Ohio). Throughout my years of teaching, I have taught many, many special needs and gifted students.
I was a Praxis Assessor, for the State of Ohio Department of Education, in 2002. I was selected to be for “Who’s Who” among America’s Teacher for several years (1992, 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2005). Also, I was a recipient of a Martha Holden Jennings Teacher’s Grant (in 1996).
I feel I have a unique awareness of special needs, of the disabled, in the fact that I have a younger brother who has cerebral palsy (CP). During his younger years, I helped take care of him and I remember all the struggles my parents faced (trying to get the best help for him during those years). My brother continues to be an advocate for the disability community and is a very well-rounded, enthusiastic individual, with a great sense of humor.
I enjoy spending time with my family and volunteering. I volunteer at the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Red Cross and at the Berea Animal Shelter. My hobbies include reading, genealogy, crafts, painting, and traveling.
